Caldwell 3, a barred spiral galaxy in Draco, lies 11.7 million light years from us.
It’s part of the M81 group of galaxies, but lies fairly distant from the center of that group. It has a splotchy look because of its low surface brightness, and because of the large number of massive young open star clusters in its spiral arms.
