NGC 488 is a spiral galaxy in Pisces approximately 90 million light years away. It contains a bright core and tightly wound spiral arms.

Scientists have observed that the stars are orbiting the galaxy at a speed roughly 40% faster than the stars in our galaxy orbit. They have also concluded that the process of star formation is what gives the spiral arms their form.
