NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day

001

Since 1995, NASA has selected and posted an Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). Among amateur astrophotographers, it is the most coveted piece of recognition because of the source, NASA, and the reach, which is hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people. The primary purpose of the NASA APOD site is to educate and inform the public. So amateur images often appear there along with professional and institutional images. This makes it all-the-more enticing to amateurs to be counted alongside scientists and educators to futher our collective knowledge about the cosmos.
