This was the first comet image my friend Nic Patridge and I had ever taken. It was the first astro image we had ever shot besides a planet or the moon. We had no idea what we were doing. Time was running out to get a pic of this comet because it was disappearing into the daylight. We barely knew how to hook the Canon up to the telescope and barely knew how to have the computer make it take a long exposure. This is just one 60-second exposure. We were just ecstatic to be able to find the comet and frame it up with reasonable focus for this shot.

Since that time, I've learned a bit more about how to shoot comets, so I think that category of output has improved dramatically. Still, this is not a horrible image and does a decent job depicting the core and the green diatomic carbon halo as well as a hint of the tail.
