Sh2-44 is a huge emission nebula in Sagittarius roughly 11,800 light years from our solar system. Dark brown lanes of cold molecular clouds course through it and around it.

vdB 120 sits in the upper-left corner of the image—a rare golden-colored reflection nebula about 5,900 light years away, which means it’s in the foreground and not part of Sh2-44.
