Sh2 57 & 58 are emission nebulas that are part of the Scutum Supershell extending out from the plane of our Milky Way galaxy.

 

The Supershell lies at a distance of about 10,700 light years. And while Sh2-58 also resides at that distance, Sh2-57 is much closer at about half that distance.
