Sh2-59 is a large emission region in the Scutum constellation. Its distance has not been definitively determined. Estimates place it between 10,000 and 17,000 light years away from us.

This nebula has not been extensively studied, so there is not much scientific literature on it. The open star cluster NGC 6664 is visible in the upper left of the frame.

Although I shot more than 20 hours with the oxygen filter for this image, not much oxygen signal came through. So I put the image together where red was predominantly hydrogen with a touch of what oxygen signal did come through. The green and blue comprise sulfur signal, which was also very weak. So the red hydrogen dominates this frame.
