Sharpless 2-99 (Sh2-99) is an emission region in Cygnus about 22,000 light years away. Sh2-100, just above it in the frame, looks like it’s part of the same complex but is actually further away at a distance of around 25,000 light years.

Studies indicate that this is an active star-forming region and that Sh2-100 may have been shaped by radiation and outflows from a giant Wolf-Rayet star.
