This is a narrowband, false-color image of vdB 46 and NGC 1999 corresponding to the broadband, true color image found here. While presenting the object in false color, a narrowband image like this one presents more detail regarding the chemistry going on in the object. Sulfur is represented by red, hydrogen by green, and oxygen by blue. The other colors come from mixtures of these three elements. In this case, I also combined the true-color red, green, and blue with the narrowband signal to bring out objects (such as the reflection nebulas) that don't appear in the narrowband data.
For details on the various objects in the frame, consult the broadband image here. That is a fairly comprehensive list of distinct objects in the area. But one is left out of that description: Herbig-Haro 222, the Waterfall Nebula:

Scientists think the Waterfall is a giant bow shock 10 light years long caused by the star V380 Orionis, which is just to the left of the Waterfall.
