Ukrainian amateur astronomer Vladimir Bezugly discovered comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN) (R2) on September 10, 2025.

It made its closest approach to Earth on October 20, 2025 at a distance of about 24 million miles. It won’t visit the inner solar system again until the year 2,795. While I wasn’t able to photograph it on the night of its closest pass to our planet, I was able to capture this image the next night as it passed through the Aquila constellation.

Another bright comet was also visible to my camera in the sky on the same night: Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon).
