IC 1795 & NGC 896 – The Fish Head Nebula

Adjacent to the larger Heart Nebula, IC 1805, the Fish Head is a star-forming region in Cassiopeia about 6,000 light years away.

Most of the new stars form in the dark dust lanes. But their energy excites the gasses in the region, ionizing them and causing them to emit their own light. Discovered by William Herschel in 1787, it resides in the Perseus arm of our galaxy.
